Swinging 60s Pop Drops

Swinging 60s Pop Drops

Perhaps the decade that shaped the modern world and pop culture more than any other, the sixties certainly had a huge impact on music. Everyone knows all about the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, but alongside them were a host of other bands, singers and songwriters pushing the boundaries of recording and pop.... Burt Bacharach, Joe Meek, Dusty Springfield, Georgie Fame, Tom Jones, Scott Walker....

Many of the drummers and session musicians who played on these hits had cut their teeth in the dance halls and big bands of the fifties so had a certain swing and lightness of touch to their playing that makes their grooves more interesting. They played more quietly too, not least because they were often recorded on few microphones as part of a much larger band, so balancing one’s own instrument to the room was an important skill to acquire.

The styles played were diverse and often fused together... some rock and roll and skiffle grooves, old style Latin and dance rhythms... Blues and soul influences from America and of course the famous Merseybeat sound and London scene too.... And let’s not forget a sharp suited Michael Caine and the sparse jazzy vibe of John Barry’s soundtracks. Obviously far too much to capture on a single album, but for volume one we’ve tried to recreate the sounds and vibes of a few of the early grooves that shaped pop music forever.
Recorded on a lovely old Rogers kit from the era and mic’d up old style in a dry sounding booth, these grooves will help add an authentic 60s vibe to your songs, soundtracks and commercials. As usual, all the drum tracks feature grooves that build and change through different musical sections offering a range of dynamics and fills...all ready for you to use as is or to easily edit into your own arrangement.

Swinging 60s Pop Drops Volume 1 was recorded at Miloco’s The Bridge in London. This writing studio has a perfectly suited small dead booth which was perfect for the sound we were after. The drum tracks were played by London session drummer Tim Weller and recorded and mixed by Drumdrops engineer Ben Thackeray.

All seventeen tracks can be purchased as individually as multi-tracks (unmixed), stems (mixed), drum loop packs or MP3 practice tracks. The Multi-tracks come as full length live multi-tracks and song construction loops. These packs include a tempo map and OMF file to export into other DAW. We also provide templates for Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, Reason, Reaper, Studio One and Ableton Live and the audio comes as 24 Bit WAVs. The Multi-track Song Loops are locked to the beat and cut into song structures such as Intro, chorus, verse, middle 8, Bridge and Outro.

The Stems and mix packs which have all the separate drum mics, percussion and reverb as separate stems come as full length 24 bit WAVs and these also come with a tempo map. The Stem and Mix packs also include the song construction loops (but mixed versions).

The loop packs contain a folder of grooves and a folder of fills. We have included as many useful loops that we can get from each drum track. The loops come formatted as 24 bit WAVs, Apple Loops and Rex 2 Files.

The MP3 Practice Tracks contain a mix of of the drum track with and without percussion and they come with a count in which makes them perfect for jamming to.

Each drum track can be purchased individually or if you buy the album (in any format) you get 20% off the complete price.

12/8 ride groove with fills. Loosely based on the theme from Midnight Cowboy by John Barry, this slowish 12/8 groove is mostly played on the ride cymbal with a soft back beat. The fairly minimal groove contrasts nicely with the relatively flamboyant snare and tom fills. 60s Pop 195 M S L P Info Save Favourite

Fast 3/4 groove with snare section and waltz feel. Based on Tom Jones' Delilah this track starts with an almost military snare vibe in 3/4 which opens out into a fast waltz feel played on the ride in the choruses. SSPD 159 60s POP 06
A classic mid to up tempo 60s 4/4 pop groove. At 159 bpm this 4/4 groove is on the faster side of mid tempo for the 1960s. It features a driving bass drum pattern that pushes through the bars, but yet is played relatively lightly so doesn't allow its tempo to make it sound overpowering. Starts with a brief bossa nova style introduction before moving to hihat for the verses and ride for the choruses and outro. 60s Pop 159 M S L P Info Save Favourite
